Facilities

An Ideal Environment for Learners

Lakshmi College of Education Gandhigram has adequate infrastructural facilities which provides joyful and meaningful learning environment.

Classroom

All the classrooms are equipped with blended mode of teaching learning facilities to enrich student communities with global competencies.

Laboratory Facilities

We also have well equipped laboratory facilities in the disciplines of English (language lab), Mathematics , Physical science, Biological science and ICT lab for training in practical aspects.. We have also a well established psychology laboratory and practicals are conducted for better understanding of the school children for the purpose of guidance and counseling.

The Language Lab

The Department of English has been a vibrant and indispensable part of the college since its founding days. The department aims at facilitating an in-depth learning of the English language teaching along with an awareness of contemporaneous academic and social discourses – all essential tools to thrive in today’s world. To attain this goal, the department has initiated several innovative endeavours, such as:

  • English language training program
  • Skill development program
  • Reaching the Unreached
  • English language training in schools

Members of the department have always played key roles in the overall growth and performance of the college.

Mathematics Laboratory

Mathematics Laboratory is a place where students can learn and explore mathematical concepts and verify mathematical facts and theorems through a variety of activities using different materials. These activities may be carried out by the Mathematics teacher or the students at inside or outside the classroom to explore, to learn, to stimulate interest and develop favorable attitude towards mathematics.

  • Provides an opportunity  to understand and internalize the basic mathematical concepts through concrete objects and situations
  • Enables the students to verify or discover several geometrical properties and facts using models or by paper cutting and folding techniques.
  • Helps the students to build interest and confidence in learning the subject.
  • Provides opportunity to exhibit the relatedness of mathematical concepts with everyday life.
  • Provides greater scope for individual participation in the process of learning and becoming autonomous learners.
  • Provides scope for greater involvement of both the mind and the hand which facilitates cognition.
  • Encourages the students to think, discuss with each other
  • Assimilate the concepts in a more effective manner.
  • Enables the teacher to demonstrate, explain and reinforce abstract mathematical ideas by using concrete objects, models, charts, graphs, pictures, posters, etc.

Activities taken-up in the Lab are based on Rearranging, Paper cutting, pasting , paper folding, pattern observation, Coloring, Drawing, Grouping, Data collection, Data analysis , mathematical experiments and preparation of Instructional materials related to Mathematics.  Lab materials classified based on skill development, materials related to content, History of Mathematics and specific instruments such as

  • Napier’s rod
  • Slide rule
  • Square root scale
  • Nomograph
  • Conversion of railway time
  • Modulo value
  • Clinometer
  • Hypsometer
  • Binary conversion model
  • Opisometer
  • Supplementary, complementary angles scales

Physical Science

This helps the student to develop a broad array of basic skills and tools of experimental physics and data analysis. It helps the students to understand the role of direct observation in physics and to distinguish between inferences based on theory and the outcomes of experiments and develop collaborative learning skills that are vital to success in many lifelong endeavours. It gives the student an appreciation of the way chemistry, as a science, works. Above all, the aims offer possibilities where the student learner can be challenged to think, to argue, to weigh evidence, to explore chemical ideas. There is an opportunity to make chemistry real, to illustrate ideas and concepts, to expose theoretical ideas to empirical testing, to teach new chemistry and as a source of evidence in enquiry and to learn how to devise experiments which offer genuine insights into chemical phenomena. It helps to learn the skills of observation and the skills of deduction and interpretation. The Intellectual stimulation is connections with the ‘real world’, raising enthusiasm for chemistry.

Biological Science Laboratory

Department is actively involved in the activities related to developing teachings skills, preparing teaching aid related to science subject and preparing the students to handle Biology practical classes. The department has a well-equipped laboratory which enables the students to carry out practical activities under the guidance of the faculty .

The study of biology provides students with opportunities to develop an understanding of our living world. Biology is the study of life and its evolution, of organisms and their structures, functions, processes, and interactions with each other and with their environments. The knowledge of biology includes scientific data, concepts, hypotheses, theories, methodology, use of instruments, and conceptual themes.

The students will use the processes and materials of science to construct their own explanation of biological phenomena. They observe, collect data and interpret data of life processes, living organisms, and/or simulations of living phenomena.

The distinction between laboratory and traditional classroom learning is that activities are student-centered, with students actively engaged in hands-on, minds-on activities using laboratory or field materials and techniques.

ICT LAB

The college has an ICT lab that can accommodate 50 students at a time. ICT Resource .This lab has LCD and OHP projectors, slide projectors and other equipment to aid the teaching learning process. Under the guidance of faculty, student teachers make use of the centre for instructional training.

Psychology Laboratory

Educational Psychology is the systematic study of the educational growth and development of a child.  Educational Psychology is its application in the field of education with the aim of socializing man and modifying his behaviour. It describes and explains the learning experiences of an individual from birth through old age. “ Psychological tests have been prone to possess great utility in many spheres like guidance, appointments, selection for tracing, classification, according to the level of intelligence, prediction, diagnosis and research in the field of education. We have a psychology lab that trains the students in applying the knowledge of principles of educational psychology and techniques to facilitate optimum development of integrated personality. It provides First-hand experience to students teachers in conducting psychological aspects applicable to classroom teaching-learning situations. The trainees conduct experiments in the lab under the guidance of psychology lecturers. Conducted Experiments are:

  • Verbal test of intelligence
  • Non-Verbal test of Intelligence
  • Memory Test
  • Mirror Drawing Test
  • Division of attention
  • Questionnaire of teacher attitude

Educational Technology

Latest audio-visual equipments such as lcd projector, paxiscope, vcd, vcr, vcp, video camera, televisions, ohp, slide projector, tape recorders and public address system are available and proper training is given to student teachers for handling these equipments.they are also trained to prepare software pertaining to these equipments.

The Hostel

There is a separate hostel for men and women students with adequate facilities. It is completely managed by students themselves on the advice of Warden and Deputy Warden. There is a residential housemother to look after to the needs of the women students. The mess is run on a dividing system. There are recreational facilities in the form of indoor and outdoor games and television. Every month the students give a Cultural Programme in the campus.
