Communicative Skills
Preamble
Today, the students are well equipped with knowledge and information. They score well in all subjects. But unfortunately, most of our students fail in the Job Market because they are not able to communicate well in English which is the lingua franca of the world. This course will ensure that the students acquire the four language skills viz. Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing [LSRW].
Aim: To hone the language skills so that the students feel comfortable to talk and write in English easily without any inhibitions
Learning Outcomes:
- Develop confidence in learning a new language.
- Acquaint with the basic rules of grammar.
- Develop the input language skills ie. Listening and Reading.
- Practice Speaking and Writing on their own.
- Learn Presentation skills and academic writing.
Scheme of Evaluation:
Max Marks: 100
Internal assessment- 25 marks and Semester exam – 75 marks

Define Communication -Effective communication-LSRW – barriers in communication – Developing communicative skills.
Unit II : Basic Grammar
Parts of Speech -Tense- Active and Passive Voice- Concord – Direct and Indirect speech
Unit III : Phonetics
Organs of Speech – Vowel sounds – Consonant sounds – Diphthongs – Transcription
Unit IV : Technical Writing
Letter writing – Emails – Report writing – Note-making – Resume
Unit V : Academic writing
Types of writing – Thesis writing – Research paper – PPT – Essay writing
